Carmelite Retirement Apartments
Aplin Cook Gardner were engaged by Southern Cross Care to design the Retirement Apartments for the Carmelite site. ACG worked in conjunction with Walterbrooke to design the Master Plan for the site incorporating an Aged Care Facility, 150 apartments, communal facilities to be housed in the heritage Arch Bishops house and a network of precinct connections and park lands.
The three proposed 5 storey retirement apartment buildings are located around the perimeter of the site to frame the central park. Apartments and balconies will have views overlooking the park to activate the space, increasing the sense of community and safety.
The apartments have a wide variation in floor design, with 2 & 3 bed apartments, penthouses, basement car parking and communal facilities. Importance was placed on aesthetics, scale, selection of materials, privacy, natural light, active facades and connection of the podium to the landscaped park setting.
